Insurance
What is included, which cover you can add and where to find your policy documents.
In short
- Travel and medical insurance is included with individual Junior programmes and group departures.
- For other programmes, insurance is optional and quoted for the individual trip.
- Cancellation cover is an optional extra.
- The insurer, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on the policy. The policy wording is definitive.
- Assistance numbers and the claims process are available in your portal before travel.
What insurance comes with my programme?
| Programme | Travel and medical | Cancellation |
|---|---|---|
| Individual Junior | Included | Optional, at extra cost |
| Group departure | Included | Optional, at extra cost |
| School year abroad | Optional | Optional |
| Adult courses and academic year | Optional | Optional |
| Work and study, teachers and corporate | Optional | Optional |
| Family programmes | Optional | Optional |
When cover is included, you will receive the documents after confirmation and before travel. When it is optional, the price is calculated using the traveller’s age, destination, school, programme and length of stay.
We use travel and medical cover designed for international students; the insurer depends on the programme, destination and age. Always check the insurer and conditions named in your own documents.
What if I can no longer travel?
Cancellation cover is optional and costs extra. It may reimburse certain non-recoverable costs if you have to cancel for a reason covered by the policy.
It does not cover every change of plan or decision not to travel. Covered reasons, exclusions, excesses, required evidence and reimbursement limits depend on the policy you choose.
Ask for it before confirming your booking. If you request it later, we will check whether it is still available and when cover would begin.
Cancelling your trip is governed by the terms supplied with your quote and booking. Any insurance reimbursement is assessed separately by the insurer.
What should I check in the policy?
Read both the policy summary and full wording before you travel. Check in particular:
- medical expenses and emergency assistance;
- pre-existing conditions and any duty to declare them;
- sports, activities or work that may be excluded;
- baggage, electronic devices and valuables;
- excesses, limits and covered countries;
- situations where you must contact the assistance team before paying for treatment;
- deadlines and evidence required for a claim.
If a medical condition, treatment or planned activity could affect your cover, tell us before buying the policy. We can help you find the right information, but only the insurer can confirm cover.
What to do if something happens
Put safety first
Call the local emergency services immediately in an emergency. For a minor, also call the school’s emergency number or the EduLeap emergency line shown in your portal.
Contact the insurer
Use the assistance number in the policy, particularly before non-urgent treatment or significant expenses where required.
Tell EduLeap
We can coordinate with the school and help you understand which documents are needed.
Keep the evidence
Keep receipts, medical reports, police reports, carrier messages and any other required documents.
Submit the claim on time
Follow the process and deadline stated in your policy.
The insurer, rather than EduLeap or the school, decides whether a claim is covered.
Medical care during your stay
If a student becomes unwell, the first step depends on the urgency. Local emergency services are called where there is an immediate risk. In other cases, the school or centre follows its own procedure and uses the contacts in the policy.
A minor is accompanied by a responsible adult. Where possible, the family is contacted before non-urgent treatment. Relevant medical information is shared with the people supporting the student under the programme’s procedures.
Outside office hours, use the emergency numbers in the portal and policy. EduLeap’s public number is not a replacement for local emergency services.
Where can I find my insurance documents?
If insurance is included, you will receive the policy after the booking is confirmed and before departure. The documents always remain available in your portal and may also be sent by email.
Keep the following on your phone and, where possible, on paper:
- your policy number;
- assistance and emergency contacts;
- the process for requesting help;
- the cover summary;
- instructions for making a claim.
If cover is optional, you will receive the available information and price before buying it. If you arrange your own policy, check that it meets any school requirements and covers the destination, length and planned activities.
